Roger Corman Launches Web Series, Oct. 29
'Splatter' looks to viewers to vote on who lives, who dies
Renowned horror filmmaker Roger Corman has teamed with Netflix, Inc., to launch the three-part web series Splatter, Oct. 29. And he is asking the public to vote on the fate of its characters.
Conceived and produced by Corman (Little Shop of Horrors, Pit and the Pendulum), Splatter is co-produced by Julie Corman (Box Car Bertha), directed by Joe Dante (Gremlins, The Howling) and stars Corey Feldman (Lost Boys, Stand By Me) in the title role of rocker Johnny Splatter.
The webisodes and voting will be hosted at www.netflix.com/splatter. Following the first episode's premiere, the second installment will go live Nov. 6 and the concluding episode Nov. 13.
Corman's tale follows Johnny, a musical genius who has climbed up the fame ladder, accumulating as many hit records as enemies. His sudden death, ruled a suicide, brings a small circle of professional parasites and hangers-on to his Hollywood Hills mansion for the reading of his last will and testament. But as his frenmies come to pick the bones clean, Johnny has returned for a deadly encore long after what they thought was his final curtain.
Netflix is delighted to be working with such film luminaries as Roger Corman and Joe Dante to bring our instant streaming capabilities to life in a unique and creative way for horror fans across the country, said Leslie Kilgore, chief marketing officer for Netflix. Splatteris a celebration of classic horror movies and it gives fans of the genre an exciting way to sample watching instantly at Netflix.
When Netflix approached me with this unique idea, I was truly intrigued about creating something that left the ending up to the audience, said Corman. Making content for the web is a natural progression for me, but Splatteris a rare opportunity to involve my horror fans who really love being a part of the process.
