'Vampire Diaries' Continues To Rule The CW

PLUS: 'Supernatural' holds steady, but audience slips to new low

Another week, and another strong outing for The CW"s new show, "Vampire Diaries."

Although we'll have to wait until this weekend to find out how "Smallville" premieres on its new Friday night, "Vampire Diaries" remains the network's top-rated show after earning a 2.4 rating/4 share, according to Fast National ratings from The Nielsen Co. That was off just 4 percent from its audience last week, and after three weeks, is only 23 percent off its series premiere, which isn't terribly bad at all.

The closest any show is getting to "Vampire Diaries" on The CW is "America's Next Top Model," which earned a 1.9/3 this week. The show's 2.7/4 average remains ahead of what "Smallville" did in that timeslot with a 2.4/4. However, when you compare the first three episodes of each show year-over-year, "Smallville" remains only slight behind what "Vampire Diaries" has done with a 2.6/4.

"Supernatural" is struggling a bit, however, chalking up its worst numbers in at least the last two years. It earned a 1.7/3, according to Zap2it, down 10.5 percent from the previous week, and its lowest numbers since earning a 1.8/3 with its season finale last May.

Over the first three episodes, "Supernatural" is averaging a 1.9/3, down 17 percent from the 2.3/4 it was attracting at the same point last year.

Fast Nationals usually provide a snapshot of what Americans are watching by pulling numbers from the top urban markets that includes both live viewing and same-day timeshifted viewing. A rating point generally represents more than 1.1 million households while the share indicates the percentage of televisions turned on that was tuned to the specific program. These numbers typically shift when final ratings are issued.
