Marcus Dunstan Reacts To 'Saw VI'
Screenwriter pleased with latest film in the Lionsgate franchise
Marcus Dunstan, who directed and co-wrote "The Collector," is voicing his reaction to the final cut of "Saw VI," which he penned with screenwriting partner Patrick Melton.
"'Saw VI' is fantastic," Dunstan said during a recent interview with Fangoria. "Kevin Greutert, whos worked on the series since day one, the first installment, directed this as his first film. I mean, how high could expectations be for something that has VI at the end of the title, but yeah, he just delivered a movie that, Ive already seen it three times and sincerely, hand on a religious document, I will say its just fantastic.
"I cant wait for it to come out. Kevins going to be a filmmaker we watch for a while."
Dunstan is particularly pleased by the amount of resolution "Saw VI" offers audiences.
"When youre writing these stories that will likely have sequels, it can be frustrating to the viewer because we answer some questions, but there are five more questions at the end," he explained. "This one actually has a great deal of resolution, not only for the three that we did, but for the three that preceded those.
"At the end of this one, you get the feeling that you completely understand John Kramer [Tobin Bell], what he was about, what his overall goals were. I think that just helps. And for us, of course were biased, but this is the best one that weve done."
The film hits theaters Oct. 23. Dunstan's "The Collector," which was originally conceived as a prequel to the "Saw" franchise, opens this Friday.
