As if “The Mist†wasn’t enough for him, writer/director Frank Darabont has confirmed that he is planning to take control of another movie based on the works of renowned horror author Stephen King. This time, he’ll be setting a course for the future for the science fiction story “The Long Walk.â€Â
The story was written by King under his pseudonym Richard Bachman and takes place in a futuristic world with foot race where competitors are shot when they stop walking. The winner of the race is the last man standing.
"Certainly you can't get too handheld with it because then you'd have an image bouncing for the length of a feature film," Darabont said, according to Rotton Tomatoes. "I think there's got to be some stabilizing gizmos that I can use to get some of that coverage but I'm already thinking about that."
The director, who considers himself one of Kings greatest followers, is known for adapting “The Shawshank Redemption†and “The Green Mile†by taking a slower pace to flesh out the story and bring the characters of the book to life. For “The Long Walk†however, Darabont is planning to use the same relentless approach he recently adopted with “The Mistâ€Â.
"That would also be, I think, probably the more ragged and loose and documentary kind of feel,†he said. “It would probably be an even lower budget than this one was."
