DollBites: New Writer Joins 'World War Z'

7/17 UPDATE: Stuart Gordon's next project; 'Saw VII' looms. PLUS: Arquette talks 'Scream'; Kitamura's 'Teratoma'

Matthew Michael Carnahan ("The Kingdom," "State of Play") will assume scripting duties for a big screen adapation of "World War Z," according to author Max Brooks.

Hes one of Hollywoods hot A-list writers, so if they went after him and paid him a mountain of gold, it definitely shows their confidence in this project, Brooks said during a recent interview with Fangoria Radio.

"World War Z" is a detailed look at desperate battles against a massive zombie threat, presenting a series of first-person accounts from around the world.

Marc Forster ("Quantum of Solace") will direct. Carnahan replaces original "World War Z" scripter Michael Straczynski ("Changeling," "Babylon 5"). -- [Bloody Disgusting]

Stuart Gordon Moves To 'The House on the Borderland': Stuart Gordon ("Re-Animator," "Dagon") is leaving the realms of H.P Lovecraft to direct the horror film "The House on the Borderland," an adaptation of William Hope Hodgsons novel.

The supernatural tale follows a family as they relocate to a relatives rural home only to discover it serves as a gateway to another dimension inhabited by hostile creatures. David Benullo ("Hallowed Ground") will script. -- [TrackingB.com]

Seventh 'Saw' film moves forward: Writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan are working on "Saw VII," according to Variety.

Project Greenlight's "Feast" launched the duo's horror career, which they continued by co-writting "Saw IV-VI," the rest of the "Feast" trilogy, and finally with the upcoming film "The Collector" (directed by Dunstan).

Lionsgate's "Saw VI," which was directed by Kevin Greutert ("Old Friends"), hits theaters Oct. 23. -- [Variety]

Arquette talks 'Scream' return: David Arquette and Courteney Cox will return for "Scream 4," which will launch a new trilogy penned by screenwriter Kevin Williamson.

"I love the 'Scream' franchise, I'm just honestly excited to be making another one," Arquette said in an interview with the NY Post. "I figured it would be a blast to bring these characters back to life and see how they've grown since 'Scream 3.'

"Working with Wes has been amazing and Kevin is an incredible artist. My wife and I really wanted to do this."

In contrast, Neve Campbell has declined to return as Sidney Prescott. Williamson has reportedly been forced to rework "Scream 4" to account for her absence. -- [NY Post]

Kitamura takes on 'Teratoma': "The Midnight Meat Train" director Ryuhei Kitamura is returning to the American horror fold with "Teratoma."

Jim Agnew and Sean Keller are scripting; they penned Dario Argento's "Giallo" and did a rewrite for John Carpenter's "The Ward."

Jeremy Wall ("Reservations," "The Objective") is co-producing for JAZ Films with Neo Art & Logic's Aaron Ockman and Joel Soisson.

"'Teratoma' is 'The Fly' meets 'Rosemary's Baby,'" Soisson said.

The film is named after a medical condition involving a large tumor that can support growths such as teeth, eyes, hair, limbs. -- [ShockTillYouDrop]
