'Moonlight' Feature Film Possible

CBS vampire series may find well-deserved life, closure

Although it was canceled after one season, the CBS vampire series "Moonlight" could return as a feature film if executive producer Harry Werksman has his way.

Vampires are enjoying a renaissance on film and TV thanks to the success of "True Blood" and "Twilight." And with the show earning a Saturn Award for best series on DVD last week, the time may be right for a movie offering some closure.

"Well, we were setting up in the end of our first season that there was a coming war," Werksman said in a recent interview with SCI FI Wire. "There was the family from which Coraline (Shannyn Sossamon) came, and it was a royal bloodline of vampires that Mick had been brought into, very much unwanted on his part. I think what we were going to try and do is to have the movie encapsulate the entire second season of the coming war."

The show followed vampire detective Mick St. John (Alex O'Loughlin) as he solved crimes and navigated deadly underworld politics.

Assembling the "Moonlight" cast for the film, however, could be a problem. Most of them pursued new projects after the show's cancellation.

"You know, unfortunately, I think that everyone has kind of moved on," Werksman said.

Nevertheless, O'Loughlin is still keen on seeing "Moonlight's" rebirth, according to Werksman.

"I know I talked to Alex just a couple weeks ago, after 'Three Rivers' got picked up, and I was congratulating him," he said. "He's like, 'When are we going to do the movie?' I said, 'I don't know, man. Any time you're ready.'"

"Moonlight: The Complete Series" is available on DVD now; reruns currently air Fridays at 9 p.m. ET on SCI FI Channel.
