Eli Roth Eager To Return To Horror
Director wraps his role in 'Inglorious Basterds' and looks to future
Director Eli Roth is revealing his plans for an untitled big-budget monster movie and a feature-length version of his "Thanksgiving" faux trailer featured in "Grindhouse."
Fresh off filming his scenes as Sgt. Donnie Donowitz for Quentin Tarantino's "Inglorious Basterds," Roth hopes to make a bloody impact on the genre, much like his previous directing efforts, "Cabin Fever" and the "Hostel" films.
Im almost done with my new script, Roth said of his monster movie concept during an interview with MTV. I was actually almost done with it before Basterds, but I had to put it down, and that was actually a good thing I took time away from it, but Im going to finish that up and start shooting this fall.
I dont want to give away the title yet, because I have to make sure I own it 100%, but its going to be something that is really fun with lots of mass destruction. I wanted to do something along the lines of Transformersor Cloverfieldthat was a little more science fiction-based, and with lots of chaos and mass destruction.
Roth only offered to tease at his monster's nature.
I dont want to say what [the monster is] yet, Roth said. Once it gets set up, I will let everyone know. It is not aliens or robots or a virus - its a little more grounded. But when people hear it they are going to be like That is going to be insane!.
Adding more insanity is Roth's impending feature-length take of his popular "Thanksgiving" trailer, which was inspired by holiday-themed horror classics.
The plan is this: I want to do a huge budget movie, but tack on three weeks to the end of it and shoot Thanksgiving, he explained. I want to do an $80 million dollar movie, and then schedule three weeks at the end to quickly shoot a $5 million dollar movie.
He intends Thanksgiving to be the sickest, bloodiest, most violent slasher movie. I want to make the highest body count slasher film I can.
