'Reaper' - The Favorite
The Devil's other son brings trouble
The following contains MAJOR SPOILERS for "The Favorite," the fourth episode in the second season of "Reaper."
This episode begins with the introduction of Morgan. Morgan is the Devil's other son, the one he appears to like more. Morgan is pompous, handsome, and a troublemaker. The Devil loves him a heck of a lot, and even forgives him when he is arrested. He's proud of him in fact!
Ted is back at The Work Bench, helping out in the parking lot. Sock decides to hire him, and let him do his work.
Nina and Ben are back on, but they run across a problem. Ben thinks she doesn't think she finds him attractive, when she doesn't want to take a sex quiz with him.
This week, Sam is goinig to have to kill a demon that is running around town trying to accumulate all of his old belongings. He creepily spits coins out of his mouth, that turn into golden cockroaches.
We quickly find out that Nina has had a sexual relationship with a demon before, and Ben doesn't like this at all. He doesn't understand what he's doing wrong.
Morgan meets up with the boys while they are hunting the new demon, and ends up almost getting them caught by the police. They manage to snag a picture the demon used to own, and they think they've come up with the perfect plan to get the demon.
Ben goes to the DMV for help with his sex problem with Nina. Gladys offers to coach him...and he says no. It wasn't a very hard decision for him, especially when she told him to bring along plenty of plastic garbage bags!
The demon comes after his picture, and sends the golden roaches after the boys. Instead of fighting the demon, they hide in the shower. Not very effective, so they have to come up with another idea.
Andy spots Ted working at The Work Bench, and fires him again. Sock doesn't like this, and asks her to bring him back on. He loves this place, and Sock feels bad for him. Andy eventually comes up with a plan; Ted can come back on, as long as he work's as Sock's trainee for six months.
Morgan comes back to help the boys capture the demon, but he doesn't really end up helping at all. He steals one of the demon's rings, so now he's the target of the demon. Apparently, he's not a good ally for Sam at all.
Andy meets Morgan, and immediately likes him. Sam doesn't like this; she hasn't seen his annoying side yet.
Ben goes to Nina and tells her that he'll have sex with her demon form if that will make her enjoy it more. She just can't use her demon voice, use her wings, or look at him. Nina flies away, leaving Ben wondering what happened.
Morgan and Sam go to the demon's widow to find out what he'll go for next, they think it's her but it's really his boat "Mary Ann". All he cared about was objects, not even his wife. She recognizes the demon's ring on Morgan, and Sam gets upset.
Before they can do anything, the demon comes after Morgan. Morgan proves to be extremely cowardly in the face of danger, and it's evident that Sam is much better at the bounty hunter job. Morgan give Sam the ring, and the demon comes after him. he gives him the ring back, and then pushes him into the vessel.
Nina comes to see Ben and tells him she used to be an angel. The reason she doesn't enjoy sex with him is because she lost her earthly husband long ago, and she's worried that Ben will die when good finds out about them. She's scared for his life, and so she's holding back. Ben comforts her and tells her he's crazy about her, so she has nothing to worry about. Nina wants to be with him, heart and body, in her human form.
The Devil gives all the golden coins collected from the demon to Morgan, leaving Sam broke and angry at his life. The Devil recognizes the fact that Morgan is no good, and that Sam is the better son because of his heart.
In the end, Sam delivers a freezer to his Mom's house, only to find a surprise. His Dad is back, and appears to be a zombie!
What Worked
The demon was super creepy, and is a good message to those that hang onto their earthly possessions a bit too much. When his mouth opened just a little too wide for Sam to throw the ring in, it was just the right amount of scary without being too cheesy.
What Didn't Work
Not much. This was a funny, creepy, and promising episode. I can't wait to see what happened to the dad, as the parents were a good part of last season.
Giving Credit Where Credit Is Due
"The Favorite" was directed by Kevin Dowling and written by Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters.
