Rumor: Search For Third Twilight Director Narrows

Spanish filmmaker Juan Antonio Bayona may take the directing reins of the Twilight threequel, "Eclipse," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Spanish filmmaker Juan Antonio Bayona may take the directing reins of the Twilight threequel, "Eclipse," according to The Hollywood Reporter. "Eclipse," the third movie in Stephenie Meyer's Twilight franchise spearheaded by Summit Entertainment, reportedly has a number of other contenders seeking the director's chair, including James Mangold ("Identity," "3:10 to Yuma"), Paul Weitz ("American Pie," "About A Boy"), and actress Drew Barrymore. Weitz, whose brother Chris is directing the franchise's second film, recently received strong buzz as a candidate. He is currently in post-production on his new film "Cirque de Freak," staring Salma Hayek, John C. Reilly and Ray Stevenson. Though the studio continues to consider its options, Bayona's name seems to be gaining the most traction. He won distinction for his spooky Spanish-language film "Orphanage," which was championed by director Guillermo del Toro ("Pan's Labyrinth," "Hellboy"). If Bayona takes the "Eclipse" helm, it will mark his English-language film debut and delay an adaptation of David Moody’s novel "Hater" that he was developing for Universal. "Eclipse" will lens when the second film, "New Moon," enters post-production. Please note that until confirmed, this should be treated as any other rumor. Digg It!
