‘Mist’ Monster Revived by Fans

Apparently, writer-director Frank Darabont is more afraid of King fans than he is of the “giant, striding beasts” that lurk in mysterious fog of "The Mist," the movie he is currently working on. According to SciFi Wire, Darabont has expressed his fears that fans of the original story may not accept his adaptation. Initially, the scene with the gargantuan monsters was not included in the film due to production concerns and a fear that it wouldn’t be as realistic as the monster that so convincingly stalked the pages of King’s story.  But if you enjoyed King's story, not to worry - Darabont eventually chose to include it in the closing chapter of the film. "When people would hear that I was going to be doing the movie, the one thing that fans of the story would always bring up is the giant, striding beast," Darabont said. "We have it near the end of the movie. For some reason, that image is so vivid in the minds of the people that know this story ... I thought, 'Gee, I'd better [include it], or I'm going to get my ass kicked!'" The beast was added to the second draft of the script the visual-effects were done by special effects house CafeFX who "did a fantastic job.” "The Mist” follows a group of residents in a small town supermarket who become trapped there when a mysterious mist harboring horrifying creatures engulfs the town.  The movie opens in theaters on November 21, 2007.
