Miguel's wife comes to Rita's home, wondering where Miguel has been all night. Dexter, knowing that the two had completed their first murder together, goes to Miguel, who tells him that he had spent the night at a bar. However, Dexter knows that bar closes regularly at 2 a.m. Dexter has to consider that Miguel is lying to him.
Then word comes that Defense Attorney Wolf didn't appear at a hearing that morning. When Dexter checks out her home/office, he finds blood. Wondering where Miguel would have hidden the body, he remembers that they discussed burying the body under another soon-to-be-buried casket/body. When Dexter goes to a local cemetery, he checks unburied graves and is stunned to find Wolf's body at the bottom of one. "Miguel really did it," Dexter realizes, "And I taught him how."
During lunch, Dexter tells Miguel he knows he killed Wolf. Prado apologizes for not telling Dexter, but he says he doesn't feel guilty about the murder. Also, he says there may be more solo "projects." "He thinks he's untouchable," Dexter decides it is time to teach Miguel a lesson, so he returns to the cemetery and leaves Wolf's body partially visible. Later, when two children are playing in the cemetary, they see the body. The authorities are notified.
Dexter, Vince and Angel arrive and analyze Wolf's body, noticing she was hit in the head and stabbed three times. Soon, Maria arrives, distraught at the loss of her friend. Not long after that comes Miguel, who asks Dexter what this is all about. Dexter tells Miguel that he was teaching his new partner about the code. Miguel seems to agree with Dexter, but later is horrified when later he discovers that Miguel used almost exactly the same language when he talked with Rita about Sil, Miguel's wife.
Dexter remembers the blo0d-stained shirt Miguel gave him to keep as proof of his involvement with Freebo's death. When Dexter analyzes the blood on the shirt, he discovers that it is bovine or cow's blood. Dexter visualizes shattering things in his office over his betrayal, but then calmly agrees to play golf with Miguel the following day.
Meanwhile, Debra and Dexter check out the area around Anton's apartment and discover blood on a wall near a dumpster. They figure out that the skinner killer overpowered Anton and kidnapped him. He's only been missing 24 hours, so they assume they have time to find him.
When King, the owner of a tree-trimming business is brought in for questioning, he maintains his cool, even when Debra confronts him. Debra settles on a plan to release Mario, the employee terrified of him, and see what happens. When Mario is about to enter his home, his fright gets the best of him and he tells Debra of a building that King rents with cash so it can't be traced.
King arrives at the building, but before he can enter, Debra and Quinn pull up, so he flees. The two cops can't enter the building, so Quinn runs the car into the door, forcing their way in. They find Anton partially skinned, and call for an ambulance.
What Worked
I guess there really is no honor among thieves, even if they are upstanding members of their community. Jimmy Smits again delivers a great performance, almost ecstatic in his joy at being able to remove any obstacles in his way. The final confrontation with Dexter isn't far away, and unless they change the show's name to "Miguel," I have a good idea who is going to win this battle even though Miguel is turning into a second Dexter, cool and calm even just after killing someone.
You have to give Michael Hall credit this week as well. The fury he feels when he discovers Miguel's treachery really was well done. That he can feel all that inside and keep a cool, Vulcan-like exterior really is something to behold.
I'm also glad Anton didn't prove to end up dead meat. It would have been really obvious had that happened. And I hate obvious.
Every week, the fast-paced action and twists keep my attention. It's a good show, and I'm glad it will be around for at least two more seasons.
What Didn’t Work
I couldn't find anything that didn't work this week. I can only wonder what will happen next week.
