HBO Pulls The Plug On ‘Preacher’

If you were looking forward to a series based on the grippingly dark comic book series “Preacher,” you won’t be pleased with HBO’s latest decision. According to Comics Continuum, the project was essentially a done deal and Mark Steven Johnson was brought on board to develop the series for the pay per view channel with make-up tests already being carried out. However, once the story started coming together HBO decided that the show would be too dark for their slate ... a strange statement coming from the channel responsible for “The Sopranos.” "We were budgeting and everything and it was getting really close to going," Johnson said. "But the new head of HBO felt it was just too dark and too violent and too controversial. Which, of course, is kind of the point!" But the news isn’t all bad, because in the process Johnson has learned that the idea of a big screen adaptation is moving forward. "I've heard someone is in the process of getting the rights to turn it into a feature film,” he explained. “I hope that happens. But I hope it happens as a series of movies as one movie couldn't do it justice. I really love that story and I dedicated a lot of my time to honor Garth's work. But it wasn't meant to be." Digg It!
