Bale Reluctant To Play John Connor
The chance to save the world from the legendary Terminators may seem like a role of a lifetime to some people, not Christian Bale though who revealed that he was hesitant about becoming John Connor.
The chance to save the world from the legendary Terminators may seem like a role of a lifetime to some people, not Christian Bale though who revealed that he was hesitant about becoming John Connor.
"My feeling is that, you know, we have an opportunity and a responsibility," Bale said, referring to franchises such as Terminator.
One thing though that Bale is determined to do is reinvent the franchise and not only bring in a new audience, but impress those who were fans of the original movies as well. In this futuristic adventure, fans of the originals can expect to see a larger variety of robots than in previous instalments, however due to the time period of the movie not all of them will be advanced as the Terminator models we have already seen. In fact some may not even be as advanced as the original Schwarzenegger model.
"There's no point in making it if we don't achieve this," he added. "Reinventing that mythology, and there's a great deal of potential for that, and that is what I'm attempting to do. Anything less than that would be us failing."
The movie - which is still currently holding on to the title "Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins" despite reports of the name being scrapped - has also gone through a small casting transformation with Helena Bonham Carter in talks to join the project and Bryce Dallas Howard has already replaced Charlotte Gainsbourg as the wife of John Connor. Gainsbourg dropped out at the beginning of the month out of fear of industrial action by the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and Carter's "small but pivotal" role is still being kept under wraps.
Filming has already commenced in New Mexico and barring an actors strike “Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins†is scheduled for release May 22, 2009.
