This story contains MODERATE SPOILERS for the upcoming fourth season of The CW series, "Supernatural." According to "Supernatural" creator Eric Kripke, the only character returning from hell when season four begins will be Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles). Bela (Lauren Cohan) bought herself a one-way ticket from a crossroads demon, and now it seems that Ruby's (Katie Cassidy) fate has also been sealed by another evil ... the floundering U.S. dollar. While "Supernatural" will operate with the same budget as last year, the exchange rate with the Canadian loonie made bringing Ruby back impossible. "Supernatural" is an American production, but films in Vancouver, B.C. "She's great," Kripke said of Cassidy. "But this was unfortunately a financial decisionâ€purely budgetary, because creatively she was terrific." Many fans had speculated about Ruby's return in a different body, since Cassidy's was last seen plopped dead next to Dean. But Kripke seems to be putting those rumors to rest. "We have a plan that's as exciting as any we've ever had of how to thread new characters in some unexpected ways," Kripke explained. This includes new female characters who will pop in on a more temporary basisâ€just the kind of women the Winchesters have become accustomed to in their nomadic hunter lifestyle. Kripke's announcement about Ruby's demise closes the curtain on "Supernatural's" biggest controversy to date. Many fans rued the addition of Ruby and Bela, as they felt the women's presence was forced on the show by CW's President of Entertainment Dawn Ostroff, who allegedly demanded more young female roles in an effort to attract a younger male audience.
