The following contains MAJOR SPOILERS for the "Arrested Development" episode of the CBS show, "Moonlight." What do you do when you're turned into a vampire and stuck as an adolescent with raging hormones for hundreds of years? The answer: You get a guest starring role on "Moonlight." That's what happens in "Arrested Development," the latest episode in the Friday night supernatural drama. Mick (Alex O'Loughlin) is trying to avoid Beth (Sophia Myles) after Mick took some of her blood to survive in "Fever." Or course, the fates decree otherwise, so the two bump into each other and Beth's live-in boyfriend, Josh Lindsey (Jordan Belfi), who invites Mick to their one-year anniversary party. Mick says he can't make it, but that doesn't stop Beth from fixating on the new vampire in her life. In fact, during the party, she's called away to investigate another prostitute killing, apparently secretly hoping to see Mick again. Beth and Mick meet again and team up, Mick wanting help to find a missing prostitute and Beth trying to solve a string of killings of ladies of the night. Nervous discussions follow, which are interrupted by the tracking of the teenage vampire Mineo (Wes Robinson), who is about to get his next victim. It all ends up with Mick and Mineo fighting it out in a local carnival, which seems to be a symbol for Mineo's sex-starved existence. When the dust settles, Beth and Mick are left to ponder just what their futures hold. I have to admit that I'm drawn to sullen, pouty characters who are trouble. So, despite his all-too-obvious Angel-like qualities (like wearing the dark overcoat), I like Mick's character. Beth's brightness and blondeness are a strong contrast to Mick. The story moved along at a good pace, and the surprise of the girl's parents identifying the dead body was a good halfway point. And, unlike "Pushing Daisies," the narration seems more natural and helpful to the episode rather than smothering the actors. The dramatic sequence with Mineo trying to convince his target to go with him worked well. It was hard to take one's eyes off it. The dialogue still feels somewhat clunky, but it is getting better. And as much as I can deal with Mick reminding me of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer's" Angel, I hope that the show eventually finds a few ways to make Mick seem less like the other vampire. I wish I could offer suggestions, but I cant' ... yet. "Arrested Development" was written by Chip Johannessen and directed by Michael Fields. "Moonlight" airs on CBS Friday nights at 9 p.m.and stars Alex O'Loughlin, Sophia Myles and Jason Dohring.
