Expect New Genre Projects This Fall
This year genre shows took a serious beating by the networks with the likes of "Bionic Woman" and "Journeyman" being axed fairly early on. However that won't stop networks from continuing with the genre this fall.

Joss Whedon's "Dollhouse" has already been given an episodic order by Fox with the option for more should the initial order do well. In the series, fellow producer Eliza Dushku plays Echo, a Government agent that is programmed with the skills and personality required to carry out her mission. After her task is completed though, her memory is wiped and she is reset for another mission.
This marks the first time Whedon has committed to a genre show since the cancellation of the space-western "Firefly." His new series is already amassing a large following online, particularly with fans of his other shows "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" and "Angel."
Fox have also given the greenlight to J.J. Abrams' "Fringe," a series with a tone not too dissimilar to "The X-Files." The two-hour pilot episode for the project has been budgeted at more than $10 million and was written by Abrams and his fellow "Star Trek" writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.
According to Variety, CBS are also pursuing the psychic drama "The Mentalist" as well as the Jerry Bruckheimer's series "11th Hour." The project is based on the UK's ITV mini-series of the same name in which a government scientist who investigates abuses of science, including killer viruses and stem-cell research run amok.
More projects are expected to be announced at the upfronts later in May where networks present their schedules to advertisers.
