Over the last week or so, rumors have been circulating that the young Lex Luthor from “Smallville” is in talks with New Line Cinema to becoming the man of nightmares Freddy Krueger. The latest reports however say that nothing is farther than the truth. Bloody Disgusting claims that the rumor was first started by Cinemablend after Michael Rosenbaum was spotted having lunch with Michael Bay, whose production company is re-launching the classic horror franchise “Nightmare On Elm Street.” Robert Englund will not be involved with the remake, meaning that Bay’s Platinum Dunes are currently looking for a new Freddy Krueger. Rosenbaum has repeatedly stated that he doesn’t plan on continuing with “Smallville” next year in a full-time capacity and so is currently scouting for other projects … and the leading character in a remake such as this would certainly be a fantastic opportunity. Platinum Dunes is also producing the remake of “Friday The 13th,” which is set to hit theaters Feb. 13, 2009.
