“I feel incredibly lucky to do this job,†said "Cloverfield" producer J.J. Abrams. And no wonder. At the moment, his job seems to be juggling some of the movie industry’s most lucrative projects.
While riding a wave of success following the release of his monster flick he is planning a sequel to the hit monster movie, producing and directing the new “Star Trek†film, and collaborating with Stephen King on an adaptation of “The Dark Tower.â€Â
As for the handheld style that has become the signature of “Cloverfield,†there is still some internal debate as to whether it will continue.
"I think that to some degree, I think it can be a good thing. I think that there are a lot of movies that seem to be doing that so I think that you know, no gimmick is good once it’s been done again and again and again,†he told Reelz Channel. “So I feel like you know, I loved it when I saw it in “Blair Witch†and I thought how cool to sort of take that idea and kind of do a monster movie through that kind of prism. But you know, at a certain point it's the kind of thing that it probably wears out its welcome you know †for some people probably while watching the movie, you know what I'm saying?"
“Star Trek†is due to hit theaters May 8, 2009.
