Showrunner Is Finished Basking In ‘Moonlight’

It sounds a little like déjà vu, but the CBS series “Moonlight” has just lost its showrunner.

It sounds a little like déjà vu, but the CBS series “Moonlight” has just lost its showrunner. When the series first went into production, it was under the careful eye of “Angel” producer David Greenwalt who helped craft the series from its infancy. He then chose to say goodbye to the vampire saga before the first episode had even aired. And now his successor, Chip Johannessen, has also ended his association with “Moonlight," according to The Hollywood Reporter. His depature now means that executive producer Joel Silver is in charge. There has been no official reason for his departure, however some online sources are claiming that behind the scenes upheaval is the cause and that CBS chose to let Johannessen go. Although the shows fate still remains undetermined, there are an additional four episodes to be filmed for the first season as a result of the writers strike. A new showrunner is not expected to be assigned for these episodes, however should CBS choose to thrill a lot of fans by renewing the series for a second year, a decision will be made on who will be guiding the show. Initially, “Moonlight” struggled to find its footing when it premiered on network television but the ratings quickly stabilized and the series went on to become the only new television shows to continue broadcasting throughout the writers strike. The series also made a strong return to CBS at the beginning of 2008 and is now beginning its run in the UK. The final four episodes are expected to air at some point in April but no official announcement has been made.
