Creator: ‘Supernatural’ Is Always On The Bubble

The CW removed reruns for "Supernatural" from their schedules and the series finally returns on Thursday for the first of four episodes that were completed prior to the writers strike, but what are the chances that the series will survive for a fourth season next year?
Speaking to E! Online, series creator Eric Kripke confirmed that although the show has a very active online community the show is very often on the bubble when it comes to renewal time.
"We always feel like we're a bubble show," Kripke said. "We always feel that the sword of Damocles is kind of dangling over our heads. And that's why we're so fervent about getting the word out with fans. The fate of the show lies in their hands more than anybody else's. You know, they have to continue to spread the word, they have to continue to let their friends know, because the main thing that determines whether we're back is just viewers. Pure and simple."
So if you are a fan of the series you know what your mission is: get the word out about the series. Unfortunately unlike many shows that are returning to the screens or beginning their run - such as "Jericho" and "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" - the writers strike isn't likely to help. When "Supernatural" returns on Thursday, the series will be up against some tough competition.
"Well, we kind of have a Murphy's Law time slot: just as we are breathing a sigh of relief, like, Oh, finally, we get to air, out of the way of new episodes of "Grey's [Anatomy]" and "CSI" and, like, thank God, we turn on the TV, and they say, ''Lost' premieres Jan. 31,' and we're like, 'Great!' It's the most lucrative time slot of the week, I get it. But I think it's up to the fans, and they have to get the word out. And I'm kicking and stamping and screaming as loud as I can to get as much promo time as possible."
"Supernatural" airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on The CW. To read the rest of the interview and to watch E! Online's clip of the new episode click here. But for Rabid Doll's video preview, check out the scenes below:
