It looks like it is Freddy Vs. Jason all over again. Last month New Line Cinemas announced that they were prepping a new outing for Freddy Krueger by re-introducing the classic horror icon for a new generation. And now the studio has confirmed that Platinum Dunes' Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form have all been enlisted to bring this nightmare to life.
The bad news is that "Nightmare On Elm Street" won't start moving forward until the writers strike comes to some kind of a conclusion as New Line have scraped all of the original ideas for the franchise with the intention of giving it a complete re-invention. Bay, Fuller and Form are currently prepping to re-launch the "Friday The 13th" franchise which will see some new twists to the Jason Voorhees story, and apparently New Line are looking for the trio to apply the same treatment to Freddy Krueger. Both franchises will be given a complete re-invention, however
"Cloverfield" star Odette Yustman has just been announced as being cast in "Friday the 13th" and filming is scheduled to commence in early April.
The producers are also working with Rogue Pictures to develop an as of yet untitled David Goyer-directed thriller about an exorcism and are also remaking "Near Dark" which will be directed by Samuel Bayer. Meanwhile over at Universal, Platinum Dunes working on a modernized version of the Alfred Hitchcock classic "The Birds."
