‘Cloverfield’ Sequel Would Be The Daddy
If you were ever told as a child that something is more afraid of you than you are of it, I don't think your parents had the "Cloverfield" monster in mind.
If you were ever told as a child that something is more afraid of you than you are of it, I don't think your parents had the "Cloverfield" monster in mind. The film which devastated the box office by pulling in over $41 million in its opening weekend already has reports of a sequel circulating the web ... and if such a movie does go ahead fans can expect carnage on a whole other level.
"The secret that we had was that the monster was a baby," Director Matt Reeves said, according to Horror-Movies. "Having just been born it was going through separation anxiety and had no idea where its mother was and was freaking out and was in a completely foreign place, didn’t understand a thing and that that would be sending it into a kind of infantile rage. Which was very frightening, but the thing that was also frightening to me was the idea that not only was it going through an infantile rage but, because it was suffering from this separation anxiety, it was spooked."
And because of the innocence of the creature responsible for the destruction of New York City, the beast is actually the victim of the movie.
"It was really afraid," he continued. "And as the military started shooting at it, I started thinking, like if you were attacked by a swarm of bees for the first time, it wouldn’t necessarily kill you but you’d be terrified, you’d be like, 'What are these things doing?!' And for me there’s nothing scarier than thinking of something that big that’s spooked. Like if you’re at the circus and suddenly the elephants are spooked, you don’t want to be anywhere near that, you’ll be crushed"
Producer J.J. Abrams has already spoken out against the rumors, insisting that if a sequel project was moving forward he would wait until the dust had settled on the current film before moving on to do another out of fear of compromising the entire "Cloverfield" phenomenon. But if the film features the baby of the family can you imagine the devastation the daddy could cause?
