'The Vampire Diaries' Spin-Off Expands Cast

Charles Michael Davis signs aboard The CW's 'The Originals'

"The Originals," The CW's potential spin-off of its hit series "The Vampire Diaries," has signed actor Charles Michael Davis, according to Deadline.

The seeds of the new series will be introduced in the April 25 episode of "The Vampire Diaries," based on a script by co-creator and executive producer Julie Plec.

"The Originals" follows Klaus (Joseph Morgan) -- who has served as a key antagonist in "The Vampire Diaries" since appearing in Season 2 -- and the original family of vampires as they return to New Orleans, a place where their history runs deep.

Davis ("The Game") will play Marcel, a vampire and the diabolical former protégé of Klaus. With a respectable measure of wickedness, strength and charisma, Marcel now spearheads the city's supernatural underworld.

Meanwhile, Elijah (Daniel Gillies) seeks to help Klaus find redemption and sides with Marcel’s enemies in order to keep his self-destructive brother in line.

Phoebe Tonkin ("The Secret Circle"), who played werewolf Hayley in "The Vampire Diaries," will also star along with Daniella Pineda ("Newlyweds").

Davis credits also include ABC Family’s "Switched At Birth" and a recurring role on ABC’s "Grey’s Anatomy."
