Rob Zombie Talks 'The Lords of Salem'
Film follows a coven of demonic witches on a rampage
Rob Zombie is touching on some of his inspirations for his next film "The Lords of Salem."
A co-production between Haunted Movies ("Insidious") and Alliance Films, "The Lords of Salem" is written and directed by Zombie ("The Devil's Rejects," "Halloween").
The film will center on contemporary Salem, where the residents encounter a 300-year-old coven of demonic witches.
"I'm going to probably start pre-production in March," Zombie said in an interview with List.co.uk. "Hopefully I'll shoot it around June. ... 'Lords of Salem' is an original idea, it's a new thing.
"I grew up in Massachusetts, so the Salem Witch Trials was something that figured in big as a kid. Even as a kid they'd take you to the witch museum. And that might have something to do with the things that I like. It's based on historical fact about the Salem Witch Trials and their modern day repercussions; so the film takes place in modern times but it's a witch movie."
"The Lords of Salem" marks the third co-production between Haunted Movies -- helmed by the "Paranormal Activity" team of Jason Blum, Steven Schneider and Oren Peli -- and Alliance Films. James Wan's ("Saw") haunted house flick "Insidious" is the first co-production, followed by Barry Levinson's ("Rain Man") "The Bay."
Zombie will produce "The Lords of Salem" along with Andy Gould, Blum, Schneider and Peli. Brian-Kavanaugh-Jones will executive produce.
