Stockard Channing Joins NBC's 'Precinct 17'

Supernatural pilot spearheaded by "Battlestar Galactica" executive producer Ronald D. Moore

"The West Wing" actress Stockard Channing is joining "Precinct 17," a pilot from "Battlestar Galactica" executive producer Ronald D. Moore, according to Deadline.

Spearheaded by Sony Pictures Television, Inc., the pilot is an ensemble drama set in the town of Excelsior, where science takes a back seat to magic and the supernatural.

The show is a fusion of ideas relating to "Hill Street Blues," Harry Potter and HBO's 1991 flick "Cast a Deadly Spell."

Channing will play Mira, a former homicide detective assigned to the robbery division of the 17th Precinct.

"Precinct 17" was pitched to NBC in September. It's the second drama pilot pickup for the network this season, following the recent green light of "Playboy."

Nominated for an Oscar for her performance in "Six Degrees of Separation," Channing also received 3 Golden Globe and 11 Emmy nominations since 1988. In 2002, she earned Emmys for "The West Wing" and "The Matthew Shepard Story." Channing also took home a Daytime Emmy in 2005 for "Jack."
