'The Secret Circle' Casts Spell On The CW
Network orders pilot based on L.J. Smith's witch tale
The CW has order a pilot based on author L.J. Smith's witch tale "The Secret Circle," according to Deadline.
Kevin Williamson, co-creator and executive producer of "The Vampire Diaries," is co-writing the pilot with Andrew Miller. They will executive produce the project along with Elizabeth Craft, Sarah Fain, Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo.
"The Secret Circle" follows a shy teenage girl who moves to a new town and who learns that she is a witch, a member of a secret coven, and a key that will unlock an ancient battle between good and evil.
Produced by the studios behind "The Vampire Diaries" -- Alloy Entertainment, WBTV and CBS TV Studios -- the pilot joins five other projects previously picked up by The CW. Two of the pilots are also genre shows: "Awakening," a zombie drama, and "Heavenly," a legal drama with supernatural elements.
Williamson has enjoyed a healthy workload recently. In addition to spearheading "The Vampire Diaries," his film "Scream 4," directed by Wes Craven ("A Nightmare on Elm Street"), hits theaters April 15. He is also penning "The Bedroom Window," based on the novel "The Witnesses" by Anne Holden. It was previously adapted for the screen in 1987.
