'Pet Sematary' Remake Director Sought
Another Stephen King property is poised to hit the big screen
Paramount Pictures is currently seeking a high-level director to guide its upcoming remake of Stephen King's "Pet Sematary," according to the Los Angeles Times.
"1408" writer Matthew Greenberg is penning the project and is reportedly poised to turn in his script to the studio.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura ("Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," "Stardust") will produce along with Steven Schneider ("Paranormal Activity").
Published in 1983, King's grim tale follows a family who moves near a pet cemetery that rests on a mysterious burial ground. An auto accident leads to the death of the family's son, compelling the father to take the body to the cemetery to be resurrected.
Paramount and director Mary Lambert helmed the 1989 adaption of the book, starring Dale Midkiff, Denise Crosby and Fred Gwynne.
Greenberg is no stranger to the horror and fantasy genres, possessing credits on "Halloween H20: 20 Years Later," "The Prophecy II" and "Reign of Fire."
Meanwhile, King fever continues in Hollywood as Warner Bros. and CBS Films spearhead "The Stand," Universal and Ron Howard ("The Da Vinci Code ") take on "The Dark Tower," and Warner Bros. considers a remake of "It."
