Syfy Version Of 'Being Human' Is A Hit
Viewership is on the rise for the new series
The new Syfy series “Being Human” shows no sign of slowing down after an already impressive launch Jan. 17.
Overall ratings for the second week showed a 9 percent increase over the premiere, with 2.14 million viewers. Adults 18-49 increased by 21 percent to 1.21 million, and adults 25-54 increased 18 percent to 1.16 million.
The show appears to have particular appeal with young female viewers, drawing in 614,000 women 18-49. The last time a Syfy original scripted series saw such numbers in that demographic was the July 28, 2009 episode of “Warehouse 13.”
This is the network’s most successful winter debut for a scripted series since “Battlestar Galactica” in 2005.
“Being Human,” which follows the adventures of three 20-something supernatural roommates as they help each other cope with their double lives, is a remake of a British television series by the same name, now in its third season.
The American version is set in Boston and stars Sam Witwer (“Smallville”), Meaghan Rath (“The Assistants”) and Sam Huntington (“Superman Returns”), as Aiden the vampire, Sally the ghost and Josh the werewolf. Mark Pellegrino (“Supernatural,” “Lost”) plays Aiden’s vampire mentor Bishop.
“Being Human” airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on Syfy.
