Michele Soavi Plans 'Cemetery Man' Sequel
Finally, another 'Dellamorte Dellamore' zombie tale may lens later this year
Michele Soavi is working on a sequel to his 1994 film "Dellamorte Dellamore," known in the U.S. as "Cemetery Man."
Soavi ("StageFright: Aquarius") is currently writing the script, which is targeted to lens later this year or at the beginning of 2012. The film follows Francesco Dellamorte (Rupert Everett), a zombie-slaying graveyard keeper who seeks to escape his nightmarish destiny.
“He’s [Soavi] going to produce it himself and wants it to really be a great, strong, shocking Italian horror movie,” said director Luigi Cozzi during an interview with Fangoria.
"Dellamorte Dellamore" incorporated some elements of Italian comic "Dylan Dog," first published in 1986 by Tiziano Sclavi. The comic chronicles the investigations of a supernatural private detective Dylan Dog, who hunts monsters in the Louisiana bayou, wearing his signature red shirt, black jacket and blue jeans. Dark Horse Comics published an American version of it in 1999.
Kevin Munroe ("TMNT") recently filmed his own adaption of the comic under the title "Dead of Night." Shot in New Orleans, the film stars Brandon Routh, Sam Huntington, Taye Diggs, Anita Briem, Peter Stormare and Kurt Angle.
Since directing "Dellamorte Dellamore," Soavi has tackled several television movies, and he returned to features with the 2006 crime thriller "Arrivederci Amore, Ciao" ("The Goodbye Kiss") and 2008’s historical drama "Il Sangue Dei Vinti" ("Blood of the Losers").
Meanwhile, Soavi is also working on a movie with Nicolas Cage similar to "The Goonies," about a group of boys seeking treasure in the volcanic rubble of the Roman city of Pompeii.
There is no word on whether Everett will return as Dellamorte.
