NBC has placed a pilot order for "Precinct 17" from "Battlestar Galactica" executive producer Ronald D. Moore, according to Deadline.

Spearheaded by Sony Pictures Television, Inc., the pilot is an ensemble drama set in the town of Excelsior, where science takes a back seat to magic and the supernatural. The show is a fusion of ideas relating to "Hill Street Blues," Harry Potter and HBO's 1991 flick "Cast a Deadly Spell."

"Precinct 17" was pitched to NBC in September, with Moore earning a commitment that reportedly includes the pilot and series penalties totaling close to $2 million.

In addition, Moore is working on "The McCulloch" for NBC. The series will focus on the crew of a fictional Coast Guard cutter.

Moore previously tackled the 2009 sci-fi pilot "Virtuality," which Fox quickly banished into obscurity.

Last October, Moore's "Battlestar Galactica" prequel series "Caprica" was canceled by Syfy after only one season. However, a second spin-off, "Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome," is already moving forward with David Eick at the helm.

"Precinct 17" is the second drama pilot pickup for NBC this season, following the recent green light of "Playboy."
