Cronenberg Is Waiting For The Right Project
Many years ago, David Cronenberg was considered one of the horror genres most promising directors, with projects like “Rabid,†“Scanners†and “The Fly†under his belt. But the sad reality is that he hasn’t taken on a genre project in almost 20 years and for now at least there is no sign of a return to the genre ... unless the right project comes along.

"I know fans have nostalgia for the movies that they grew up with," Cronenberg told Wired. "But to redo that would be boring. On the other hand, I wouldn't ever rule out doing another sci-fi or horror film as a matter of course. If something came along that was intriguing and challenging, I wouldn't hesitate."
With regards to the current brand of movies being released, the director (who despite his movies considers himself as a "non-violent person") admitted that he feels a few of his ideas have been re-used from time to time in various other films which is actually part of the reason he hasn’t returned to the genre.
"I think, without trying to sound egomaniacal, that my movies have been picked apart piece by piece, and recycled quite a bit. But that's the nature of the film business, or creativity in general: We are all feeding off of each other. There's no question about that, so I guess it's not a surprise that I'm moving somewhere away from all of that."
