Adam Green Looks To Future After MPAA Battle
Director to tackle the bizarre horror anthology 'Chillerama'
After enduring an epic battle with the MPAA over the fate of his film "Hatchet II," director Adam Green is talking about the aftermath of that struggle and his next projects.
"Hatchet II" recently bypassed the MPAA's dreaded NC-17 stamp by announcing it would forgo a rating and make its debut in AMC Theatres, who initially embraced Green's film and its unrated status. However, AMC pulled the slasher sequel from all of its cinemas shortly after its Oct. 1 release, stating in a press release that their business decisions were based on performance.
Written and directed by Green ("Frozen"), "Hatchet II" briefly enjoyed the widest release of an unrated genre film in more than 25 years.
Green is calling for change at the MPAA.
"I'm still kind of beaten and tortured on the ground right now," Green said in an interview with FEARnet. "But I can tell you, if I feel like it I'm going to do the exact same thing again, and I'm going to fight them again. That's what I am, I'm a fighter.
"We need to change the system : I can't do it myself, but if I feel like doing 'Hatchet III,' again, I'm going to make 'Hatchet III' the way I want to make, and I'll fight 'em again and that will be that."
With the "Hatchet II" AMC debacle behind him, Green's next horror project will likely be "Chillerama," an outrageous anthology, which will boast segments directed by him, Tim Sullivan ("2001 Maniacs"), Joe Lynch ("Wrong Turn 2") and Adam Rifkin ("Detroit Rock City").
Adam Rifkin is doing a segment called 'Wadzilla,' which is basically a take on 50s giant monster movies," Green explained in an interview with EW. "Its [about] a guy that goes to get his sperm count raised, and it creates one big sperm that attacks New York City.
"Tim Sullivan is doing something called 'I was a Teenage Werebear.' In gay culture theres a term Bearfor guys that are big hairy burly men, and his has kind of a 'Rebel Without A Cause'-type feel.
"My segment is called 'The Diary of Anne Frankenstein.' Its a black and white movie about Hitler trying to create the perfect killing machine to win the war. Joel David Moore ('Hatchet,' 'Avatar') plays Adolf Hitler. Its probably the funniest part hes ever done. The whole movie is in German, but Joel does not know German, so hes making up his own gibberish through the whole movie, but his subtitles are correct.
"The final one is being done by Joe Lynch. His is like a zombie movie with a twist -- theyre more like sex zombies than zombies that just want to eat you.
Green is also developing the family friendly film "Killer Pizza."
