‘AVP’ Aimed For The Darkness Of ‘Alien’

The sequel movie “Aliens Vs. Predator: Requiem” will see one hell of a rematch between Humanity, Aliens and Predators. Only this time it will do it with the first Alien-Predator hybrid mixing things up and creating the same terrifying feel of the original “Alien” movies.

The sequel movie “Aliens Vs. Predator: Requiem” will see one hell of a rematch between Humanity, Aliens and Predators. Only this time it will do it with the first Alien-Predator hybrid mixing things up and creating the same terrifying feel of the original “Alien” movies. According to director Colin Strause, the movie was deliberately set in the middle of nowhere to try and create exactly that kind of atmosphere as they were afraid that some commercial locations may spoil the mood. "The thing we were trying to be careful of is we didn't want to have aliens dancing in front of McDonald's and stuff," Strause told SciFi Wire. "Seeing an alien in broad daylight or just plain view is going to look stupid no matter what you do. The reason it worked in all the other movies is you were in a dark spaceship, you had flashing [and] blinking lights [and] steam jets. You had all these great elements to cover them up, basically, and if you don't do that, they're going to look like guys in suits." In the film, fans will be able to watch fights take place in some of the oddest places yet, including a sewer system and a power plant. And in just a few scenes, long-time fans of both franchises may feel a little nostalgia. The power plant fight scenes include "all the yellow warning beacons and lots of steam and everything, so we're trying to give it that 'space' sort of feel, ... even though it is Earth," Strause continued. "Not to make it feel cheesy or anything, just give it a much more gritty kind of environment." The “Aliens Vs. Predator” rematch takes place on Christmas Day.
