‘Dexter’ Ends On A Record-Breaking High

It has already earned critic acclaim and a Golden Globe nomination, and now “Dexter” has once again proven itself as one of Showtime’s most successful series by finishing up its second season with record-breaking numbers. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the second season finale of the series, entitled “The British Invasion,” managed to draw 1.4 million viewers in its 9.pm. broadcast making it the most-watched audience for a Showtime series. But the numbers don’t stop there because only an hour later for the episodes encore presentation an extra 382,000 viewers tuned in for the show. Before “Dexter,” the record was previous held by the 2004 telecast "Soul Food” with 1.21 million viewers, however that was knocked out of the water in November by “Dexter’s” episode “Morning Comes” and now again by the finale. Last year the series also ended on a strong note with 1.2 million viewers for the original airing and also 148,000 for the repeat performance. “Dexter” has yet to be officially renewed for a third season, however with numbers like this it should only be a matter of time. With the writers strike still bringing production of most television series to a standstill, an edited version of the first two seasons will begin their run on CBS, which owns Showtime.
