"Star Trek" director J.J. Abrams' top secret film "Super 8" recently assembled its cast and has begun filming in Weirton, W.Va.

"Super 8" teams Abrams ("Lost") and Steven Spielberg to create an experience inspired by "Jaws," "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and "E.T."

Joining the alien-on-the-loose fright film is Kyle Chandler ("Friday Night Lights"), Elle Fanning ("The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"), Ron Eldard ("Ghost Ship"), Noah Emmerich (C"cellular"), Gabriel Basso ("Ghost Town"), Zach Mills ("Eleventh Hour"), Joel Courtney, Ryan Lee and Riley Griffiths.

Set in the '70s or '80s, the film centers on a group of kids who are shooting a movie with a Super 8 camera, and who later discover their footage caught an image of an alien creature.

Abrams wrote and directed the film, which he is producing under his Bad Robot banner along with Bryan Burk ("Star Trek," "Fringe") and Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment.
