SawDirector To Turn Up The Volume To 11

The film 11 11 11will open in theaters Nov. 11, 2011

Darren Lynn Bousman is helming a horror-tinged thriller called 11 11 11, which will open in theaters Nov. 11, 2011.

The film will draw on conspiracy theories surrounding the numerological significance of the number 11, with the idea that the specific date of Nov. 11, 2011 will have special significance, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Producer Wayne Rice (Dude, Wheres My Car?) realized that date falls on a Friday, and set about searching for a movie to open on that date. He became interested in Bousman ("Saw II-IV") due to the cult status he has achieved with Repo: The Genetic Opera.

"He and I sat down over some pasta, [and] the movie materialized," Rice said. "A lot of this has been New Agey or biblical, with talk of angels. Leave it to Darren to see the dark side of that date."

Bousman is in the process of writing the script, in which the 11th gate of heaven opens on Nov. 11, 2011, and something from another realm enters the earth. The film will be more in the vein of Signs or The Strangers, lacking the gore of the Saw franchise.

"With 'Saw' and 'Repo,' my career has been about finding new ways to freak people out; that's what I want to do with this," Bousman said. 'We want to take this phenomenon and give it horrific purpose."

Although the number 11 hasn't figured very prominently in television or films to date, there is precedent for it's significance. The 11:11 movement posits that the presence of the number 11 in peoples lives alerts them to angels or spirits trying to communicate with them. Conspiracy theorists believe the number 11 is prominent in historical events.
