J.J. Abrams To Develop '7 Minutes In Heaven'
Bad Robot film based on a concept by 'Lost' director Jack Bender
J.J. Abrams and his production company Bad Robot are moving forward with 7 Minutes in Heaven, a story of a teenage make-out game that takes a shocking turn.
7 Minutes in Heaven is based on a concept by Jack Bender, who is tentatively set to helm the next Jack Ryan film and who directed numerous episodes of ABC's "Lost," including the show's final episode.
In early June, Bender signed with Bad Robot to develop and direct the film, which will likely involve the company's studio home Paramount Pictures, according to The Hollywood Reporter. A writer for the project has not been announced.
The film will center on two teenagers who enter a closet for a game of make-out, only to discover their friends dead when they come back out.
7 Minutes in Heaven is part of a surge of projects that Bad Robot will develop for Paramount Pictures. Abrams' company is maintaining a tight lip about the nature of most of these films though.
Nevertheless, one of these projects is Paul Guinan and Anina Bennett's Boilerplate," which is about the development of a robot during the Victorian era.
And Abrams is already pushing ahead with Super 8, a film -- teaming him with Steven Spielberg -- that follows a group of kids who are shooting a movie with a Super 8 camera and later discover their footage caught an image of an alien creature. The film is inspired by Spielberg's early pictures like "Jaws," "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and "E.T."
In addition, Abrams will tackle the next Star Trek sequel and produce Mission: Impossible 4, which hits theaters in December 2011.
Although most Bad Robot projects have science fiction themes, the company is stepping out of the genre with the remake of Little Darlings and the November release of Morning Glory, starring Harrison Ford and Rachel McAdams.
