'True Blood' - Beautifully Broken

Carbonated blood, Nazi werewolves and rotten shape-shifting little brothers?

Who wants to go to dinner at the King of Mississippis house? With a menu of carbonated blood, blood bisque and blood gelato -- who wouldnt be hungry? The creativity in the menu was fantastic -- almost as great as seeing Lorena (Mariana Klaveno), Bills maker, walk into the room at the end of the show. Question: Did he really light her on fire -- or could that have been a dream sequence? Somehow, it didnt seem completely genuine.

Again this week, we were treated to some more wisdom from the ever-intelligent Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis). He has managed to pick Tara (Rutina Wesley) up out of her grief stricken state and mold her back into the strong woman shes been since the beginning of the show.

Lafayette instructs Tara that life is hard -- but its how you deal with it that makes you who you are. He touches on what is perhaps one of the saddest parts about suicide -- how deeply selfish it is, when he tells Tara that she cant dare leave him alone to deal with this life. If we were all lucky enough to have someone with as much honesty, wisdom and courage as Lafayette in our lives, wed be a lot better off!

Now -- Sookie (Anna Paquin) and Eric (Alexander Skarsgard). Clearly he has a thing for her. Hes told her on more than one occasion that he wants her -- but does she have any interest in him? She sure doesnt appear to. It looks as though hes about to save her life from the preview. Perhaps that will change things between the two of them? It wouldnt be the first time, but hes about to outnumber Bill (Stephen Moyer).

What Worked

New characters. Theres a new creepy vampire in town -- one thats after Sookie for some strange reason. Hes suave and he seems to have a plan; it will be great to see what part he plays in the plot.

Theres also a new mystery woman that Jason's stumbled upon. I dont think weve seen the last of her.

More attention was given to Sams (Sam Trammell) story line tonight, and it was well deserved. We had time to get to know his new family, and see him try to bond with them. His brother is the quintessential rotten little brother -- he even goes too far as to try and get Sam run over by a semi. I think this family is going to need some counseling in the very near future.

What Didnt Work

Something was confusing about the last two episodes: Originally it seemed as though Eric had taken Bill hostage, but now the King of Mississippi says it was at his command? That didnt seem to sit right. Perhaps its time to rewatch last weeks episode.
