'Paranormal Activity 2' Director Signed
Tod 'Kip' Williams takes the helm; film set for October release
Paramount Pictures has selected Tod "Kip" Williams to direct "Paranormal Activity 2."
Oren Peli, director of "Paranormal Activity," recently made the announcement on the film's Web site.
"We are thrilled to have Kip working with us," Peli said. "He is the guy we want at the helm, because he knows exactly what we want to deliver to the fans ... and I can't wait to be a part of what he's putting together.
"I don't want to spoil the story but I promise it'll surprise you."
William's credits include the films "The Door in the Floor," "The Adventures of Sebastian Cole" and "Wings Over the Rockies." He is also working on "Jar City," a murder mystery set in a small Louisiana town.
According to The LA Times, Brian DePalma ("Carrie"), Akiva Goldsman ("A Beautiful Mind"), Brad Anderson ("Session 9") and Greg McLean ("Rogue") were among the list of frontrunners to helm "Paranormal Activity 2."
Saw VI" director Kevin Greutert was poised to direct the film, but Lionsgate forced him back using an option in his contract. As a result, Greutert will helm "Saw VII 3D," which will clash with "Paranormal Activity 2" at the box office in October.
One of 2009's biggest surprise hits, "Paranormal Activity" followed a young couple who believed their house may be haunted and who decided to document the strange events on video.
Jason Blum and Peli, who masterminded the film, are producing the sequel. Steven Schneider will serve as executive producer.
"Paranormal Activity 2," scripted by Michael R. Perry ("Stephen King's Dead Zone," "Millennium"), hits theaters Oct. 22.
