'Saw VII 3D' To Reach Killer Scale
Screenwriter Patrick Melton discusses franchise's potential end
"Saw VII 3D" screenwriter Patrick Melton is upping the scale and intensity of what could be the last chapter of Lionsgate's juggernaut franchise.
With bigger traps and more characters, the series is "definitely the most expensive and ambitious 'Saw' movie that weve done," Melton said in an interview with Dread Central.
"Some of it is in response to last years 'Saw VI,' which, while being the most critically acclaimed 'Saw' film in a while, didnt do particularly as well [at the box office] as everyone would have hoped," he explained, "so we are going pretty far with this one in terms of the scale and intensity of the traps and the amount of twists, especially into the third act, which is just a plethora of twists and reveals."
Although the theatrical performance of "Saw VI" may end the rein of Jigsaw, Melton is intent on positioning the series for a proper send off.
"If we end it with this one, then the entire franchise and story will be wrapped up in a nice pretty package," he said.

"Saw VII 3D," directed by Kevin Greutert ("Saw VI"), hits theaters Oct. 22. Melton co-wrote the film with Marcus Dunstan.
