Melinda Clarke Joins 'The Vampire Diaries'
Her character will catch the eye of Damon Salvatore
"The Vampire Diaries" bad boy Damon Salvatore will soon set his romantic sights on an older woman, according to executive producer Julie Plec.
Melinda Clarke ("Return of the Living Dead III," "The O.C.") will join the cast this month as Matt Donovan's (Zach Roerig) mother Kelly, and will quickly form a bound with Damon (Ian Somerhalder).
"The two of them hit it off instantly and form a bond that results in some hard-core flirtin' and sexin'," Plec said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
"Damon isn't just about the high school girls," he explained. "He's a worldly guy, so watching him sex it up with a real woman was very exciting."
Also joining the cast this season is David Anders ("24," "Alias"), who will play Elena's (Nina Dobrev) uncle, Jonathan Gilbert. He will appear in a multi-episode arc starting in April.
Based on the best-selling series of books by L. J. Smith, the show chronicles two vampire brothers obsessed with the same beautiful girl, and battling to control the fate of an entire town.
"The Vampire Diaries," airing Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW, is executive produced by Kevin Williamson (Scream, Dawsons Creek), Plec (Kyle XY, Wasteland), Leslie Morgenstein (Gossip Girl, Private) and Bob Levy (Gossip Girl, Privileged).
