Hunt On For 'Paranormal Activity 2' Director
'Carrie' director Brian DePalma is one name listed as a frontrunner
Paramount Pictures appears intent on seeing "Paranormal Activity 2" shepherded by an accomplished director.
According to The LA Times, Brian DePalma ("Carrie"), Akiva Goldsman ("A Beautiful Mind"), Brad Anderson ("Session 9") and Greg McLean ("Rogue") are among the list of frontrunners to helm the sequel to 2009's biggest surprise hit.
Saw VI" director Kevin Greutert was poised to direct the film, but Lionsgate forced him back using an option in his contract. As a result, Greutert will helm "Saw VII 3D," which will clash with "Paranormal Activity 2" at the box office in October.
No details are available on the sequel's story line. The original film followed a young couple who believed their house may be haunted and who decided to document the strange events on video.
Jason Blum and Oren Peli, who masterminded "Paranormal Activity," are producing the sequel. Steven Schneider will serve as executive producer.
"Paranormal Activity 2," scripted by Michael R. Perry ("Stephen King's Dead Zone," "Millennium"), hits theaters Oct. 22.
