Third 'Riddick' Film Returns To Roots
Sequel seeking more of a horror-toned tale like 'Pitch Black'
Details are emerging on the third "Riddick" film, which unites Vin Diesel and writer-director David Twohy to their creature-feature roots.
The film will favor a "Pitch Black"-style story, seeking more of a horror-toned survival tale than the larger space-opera action of "The Chronicles of Riddick." It remains unclear if any mention will be made to events in "Chronicles"; that film basically left Riddick in charge of the Necromonger army, whose quest is to find the Underverse.
Regardless, the third Riddick film will find him left for dead on a barren alien planet, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He will face two groups of bounty hunters and the local hostile wildlife -- featuring three-legged bisons and mud demons.
Diesel indicated that shooting is expected to take place later this year in the White Desert in Farafra, Egypt. The previous films were shot primarily in South Australia and Vancouver, respectively.
