ABC Gets Spooky With 'The Gates'
Supernatural crime drama to star 'Prison Break' actor Frank Grillo
Looking to ride the spooky wave of successful genre programing, ABC is joining the fray with the supernatural crime drama "The Gates."
"Prison Break" actor Frank Grillo recently landed the lead, with Janina Gavankar ("The League"), Luke Mably and Chandra West ("90210") also aboard as cast members.
The series -- set for a summer launch -- will be directed by Terry McDonough ("Breaking Bad," "The Street"). Richard Hatem ("The Dead Zone," "Supernatural") and Grant Scharbo ("The Mountain") will script.
"The Gates" follows on a big-city cop (Grillo) who becomes chief of police in a seemingly tranquil planned community only to discover the residents carry dark secrets.
Mably ("The Prince and Me") will play one of the residents -- a cardiologist who is a vampire-like creature. Gavankar ("The L Word") will play a local cop; West ("90210") will play the owner of a tea shop.
Scharbo, Hatem and Gina Matthews ("Jake 2.0") are executive producing "The Gates," which is set for a March shoot in Louisiana.
