Williamson Talks 'The Vampire Dairies'
The CW series will spotlight supporting characters, Founder's Day celebration
"The Vampire Dairies" executive producer Kevin Williamson recently hinted at where he is steering his hit series.
Williamson, the writer behind such genre films as "Scream" and "The Faculty," indicated the show will not just blindly focus on its main three characters.
Supporting characters like Matt (Zach Roerig) and Caroline (Candice Accola), who are awkwardly toying with a relationship, will also receive the spotlight.
"Matt sort of admitted he likes Caroline," Williamson said in an interview on SCI FI Wire. "We're going to explore that one. I think that's one of the fascinating romances on its own, because you're dealing with two people that have come together out of loneliness and not necessarily for the right reasons. So it's going to be interesting to watch them have their romance and maybe not necessarily be two people who belong together. That sort of sucks, but they're going to try."
In addition, watching Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) dig deeper into the journal will be a fun development, Williamson teased.
"I think when [mid season] ended, he found a journal," he said. "He finds some stuff in that journal that leads him on a very interesting journey, and it actually may put him at odds against his sister."
Another development poised to excite fans is the secret behind Tyler (Michael Trevino). But Williamson said viewers will need patience.
"Not this season, but anyone who's been watching, they know that we hinted of it already," Williamson said. "If you've read the books, you know which character actually has the curse. It's latent; it's a repressed curse. It's triggered by one particular activity that hasn't happened yet, so we'll go there probably in the next season.
"I think what's going to happen is we're going to watch Tyler. It's no secret, it's Tyler. We revealed the full moon and we revealed all of his aggression issues, and we're going to probably continue to let him explore his anger issues and his daddy issues and see what happens. I think it's going to be fun to watch Tyler explore his aggression."
Lastly, Williamson promises the Founder's Day celebration in Mystic Falls will provide the main excitement leading up to the season finale.
"We're sort of just building towards Founder's Day, the Founder's Day celebration, because it's the 150th anniversary of this town," he explained. "I would say we're building to the big huge celebration and what happens with the tomb. Happy little party, then there's this tomb business to deal with, that there's 26 vampires down there. I don't want to tease too much, but our whole back nine sort of focuses on that tomb a little bit."
