'Paranormal Activity 2' Moves Forward
'Saw VI' director to helm the sequel to 2009's biggest surprise hit
Paramount Pictures has teamed screenwriter Michael R. Perry and Saw VI director Kevin Greutert for Paranormal Activity 2.
Set to hit theaters Oct. 22, the sequel to 2009's biggest surprise hit is positioned for a showdown with the seventh installment in Lionsgates popular Saw series.
Propelled by a sharp social media campaign and enthusiastic word-of-mouth from fans, "Paranormal Activity" ultimately earned over $100 million at the domestic box office despite a meager $15,000 budget.
The film follows a young couple who believe their house may be haunted and who decide to document the strange events on video.
No details are available on the sequel's story line.
Jason Blum and Oren Peli, who masterminded "Paranormal Activity," are producing the sequel. Steven Schneider will serve as executive producer.
These guys get it, and the fans wont be disappointed, said Peli of Perry and Greuterts involvement.
Paramount Pictures is also releasing Pelis Area 51, now in post-production.
