Director Finds Home At 'The Orphanage'
New Line Cinema recruits Mark Pellington for remake of Spanish ghost story
Mark Pellington will helm "The Orphanage," New Line Cinema's remake of the Spanish-language ghost flick "El Orfanato."
The studio has been developing the remake since 2007, with Guillermo del Toro and ContraFilm executives Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson attached to produce. Pellington will work from a script by Larry Fessenden and Del Toro.
The original 2007 "El Orfanato," directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, followed a woman who takes over the orphanage where she was raised, intent on opening a home for disabled children. However, her son begins playing with imaginary friends who once terrorized her when she was a child.
Del Toro was creative supervisor on the original film, which was produced by Rodar y Rodar and Telecinco Cinema in collaboration with Warner Bros. Pictures Espana.
Pellington's credits include "The Mothman Prophecies," "Arlington Road," "Henry Poole Is Here" and "U2 3D."
