'Creature From The Black Lagoon' To Swim Again
Carl Erik Rinsch is in talks to helm a remake of Universal Pictures' famous monster franchise. Marc Abraham and Eric Newman of 'Children of Men' fame will produce.
Carl Erik Rinsch is in early talks with Universal Pictures to direct a remake of the 1954 film Creature From The Black Lagoon.
Universal is intent on breathing new life into one of its most famous monster franchises, which follows an aquatic humanoid that terrorizes a scientific expedition deep in the Amazon.
Creature From The Black Lagoon would mark Rinsch's second big Universal project, following his feature directing debut on Keanu Reeves' 47 Ronin, an epic samurai tale set in 18th Century Japan. That film is expected to start production next year.
Rinsch is known for shooting visually compelling commercials for RSA, a film and commercial production company owned by Ridley and Tony Scott. A directing gig on the Alien prequel was initially in the cards for Rinsch until Ridley Scott decided to helm that film.
Marc Abraham and Eric Newman ("Children of Men") of Strike Entertainment will produce Creature" with Gary Ross ("Pleasantville," "Seabiscuit").
In a previous incarnation of the remake, Universal looked to Breck Eisner ("Sahara") to direct from a script by Ross, whose father, Arthur, co-wrote the original.
