'The Shining' Novel May Get Sequel

Stephen King reveals he is considering a new Danny Torrance tale

Stephen King may pen a sequel to his novel "The Shining."

While participating in a recent reading from his new book "Under the Dome," King surprised fans at Toronto’s Canon Theatre with the announcement.

Since last summer, King says he has been fascinated by the fate of Danny Torrance, who in the novel was last seen recovering from his Overlook Hotel nightmare while at a resort in Maine with his mom and chef Dick Halloran.

Danny was bound to have a lifetime of emotional scars, King explained. How Danny deals with those traumatic experiences and his psychic powers would be central points of the book.

Though it's still tentative, King hopes to center the sequel on a 40-year-old Danny living in upstate New York as he serves as a hospice orderly. His primarily function is to visit with patients in their last hours, and to help them cross into the afterlife using his gift.

King's current title for the novel is "Doctor Sleep."
