Stephen King's recent supernatural thriller "Under the Dome" was optioned by DreamWorks TV for development as a limited series.

Steven Spielberg, Stacey Snider and King will executive produce along with DreamWorks TV chiefs Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey, according to Variety.

"Under the Dome" follows the turmoil that ignites after an invisible force field envelopes a small vacation town in Maine, forcing the locals to fight for their survival as the town produces warring factions.

DreamWorks is meeting with writers for the project, and is planning to sign a writer aboard before shopping the series to prospective buyers.

Spielberg and King previously worked together on a screen adaptation of King's 1984 novel "The Talisman," on which Spielberg has had the option for more than 20 years. That project has been developed as a feature. Later, "The Talisman" came close to being done as a mini for TNT, but budgetary concerns derailed the project.
